CD Projekt Red recently confirmed the introduction of new regions and monsters in The Witcher 4 during an interview with Gamertag Radio.
Exploring Uncharted Territories in The Witcher 4
Unveiling Stromford and the Bauk
Following The Game Awards 2024, game director Sebastian Kalemba and executive producer Gosia Mitręga spoke with Gamertag Radio's Parris. They revealed that Ciri's journey will lead players to previously unseen areas of the Continent. The village showcased in the reveal trailer is named Stromford, a place where a disturbing ritual involving young girls is practiced to appease a monstrous entity.
Kalemba identified this "god" as Bauk, a creature inspired by Serbian mythology. He described Bauk as a cunning and terrifying foe, promising a chilling encounter for players. Beyond Bauk, numerous other new monsters await.
While eager to discuss these additions, Kalemba remained tight-lipped about the specifics of the new regions, teasing players with the promise of a completely novel experience within the familiar setting of the Continent.
A subsequent interview with Skill UP on December 15, 2024, confirmed that The Witcher 4's map size will be comparable to The Witcher 3. Given Stromford's location in the far north, Ciri's adventures will extend beyond Geralt's previously explored territories.
Enhanced NPC Interactions and Visual Fidelity
During the Gamertag Radio interview, Kalemba highlighted CD Projekt Red's commitment to significantly enhancing the game's NPCs. Addressing concerns about reused character models in The Witcher 3, he emphasized the increased diversity and depth of the NPCs in The Witcher 4. Each NPC will have their own unique life and story, influencing their interactions with Ciri and other characters. The developers are striving for greater realism by incorporating the concept of interconnected lives within the isolated village setting.
Further improvements include enhanced character models with more realistic appearances, behaviors, and facial expressions. Kalemba stated the goal is to create an even more immersive experience than its predecessor.
While details are still scarce, these revelations point towards a more interactive and immersive experience with richer NPC interactions.
