PEAK is a breakout co-op climbing game born from a 4-week game jam in Korea—and it has since outsold Landfall’s previous hits. Discover how Aggro Crab and Landfall joined forces to create this viral sensation.
PEAK’s Breakout Success
A Game Born from "Jealousy"
PEAK emerged from an unexpected mix of admiration and friendly rivalry between Aggro Crab, the team behind Another Crab’s Treasure, and Landfall, creators of Content Warning. The collaboration, dubbed "Landcrab," came to life during a 4-week stay in a Hongdae Airbnb in Korea.
In a June 25 interview with PC Gamer, Aggro Crab founder Nick Kaman revealed that learning Content Warning was developed in just one month was a wake-up call. At the time, Aggro Crab was finalizing Another Crab’s Treasure, a grueling 3+ year project that left the team drained. Kaman noted, "While it was a success, Content Warning was a much bigger one made in MUCH less time."
Aggro Crab and Landfall already shared a strong rapport, so when Kaman proposed a joint game jam, the response was immediate. In February, three developers from Aggro Crab and four from Landfall gathered in Korea, bringing their laptops and passion. "We brought our computers to an Airbnb in Hongdae and locked tf in for a month," Kaman said.
The idea for PEAK, however, originated a year earlier. Aggro Crab’s Creative Director Caelan Rashby-Pollock first envisioned it while relaxing in a hot tub in Sweden. He explained, "The concept was a lot more vague then—closer to an open-world survival thingy—but we quickly got excited about playing as a group of lost scouts on an island, with all the darkly comedic chaos that could unfold."
Once in Korea, the team lived and breathed PEAK. "Every moment was either spent working on the game or grabbing food while talking more about PEAK," Kaman recalled. Despite the intense pace, he described it as one of the most enjoyable projects the team has ever undertaken.
While PEAK has taken the gaming world by storm, the developers have confirmed in the game’s FAQs that there are no current plans to expand it. Ongoing efforts are focused on bug fixes and stability, but both studios are now shifting attention back to their core projects.
1 Million Copies Sold in Just 6 Days
PEAK’s success was immediate and staggering. Just six days after launch, Aggro Crab announced on Twitter (X) that the game had surpassed sales of Another Crab’s Treasure. The post read: "why did this stupid jam game sell more copies than another crabs treasure im gonna crash out."
Currently ranked as the 2nd top-selling game on Steam, PEAK has earned a "Very Positive" review rating. Players praise it as one of the best co-op experiences of the year, filled with hilarious, chaotic moments and inventive gameplay.
According to SteamDB, the game reached an all-time peak of 102,799 concurrent players. At Game8, we scored PEAK a 76/100, highlighting its tight mechanics, clever co-op design, and uniquely challenging biomes. While occasional bugs and server hiccups exist, the game’s charm, humor, and value more than make up for them. For a deeper dive into our review, check out our full article below!
