REPO's Overcharge and Difficulty Scaling are Getting Major Tweaks, Says Developer

The developers behind REPO have announced significant changes to the game’s Overcharge mechanic and difficulty scaling system. New mechanics will be introduced every 10 levels, starting at level 10. Read on for more details about what’s changing and how player feedback is shaping the game during its open beta phase.

REPO Development Updates

Overcharge Overhaul

During the recent open beta, developer Semiwork gathered valuable insights from players regarding the Overcharge mechanic—one of the core gameplay features in REPO. This mechanic enables players to counter enemies by lifting them and slamming or throwing them against surfaces. However, this ability comes with a risk: an Overcharge meter that fills as players use the mechanic. If it overflows, the player will explode.

Previously available from the start of the game, Overcharge is now set to unlock at level 10. Additionally, the team plans to introduce new challenge mechanics every 10 levels—starting with Overcharge at level 10, followed by others at levels 20, 30, and beyond.

According to Semiwork, these escalating mechanics aren’t just gameplay gimmicks—they’ll also be tied into the game’s overarching lore. The developers teased, “This system will be connected to the story. It won’t be added without purpose. There’s something deeper going on here, and we’ll reveal more soon.”

Developers Dive Into Open Beta Matchmaking

During the open beta, members of the Semiwork team joined random matches and engaged directly with players to gather real-time feedback. Pontus Sundstrom, a developer at Semiwork, shared his experience: “I've actually played with many of you—in disguise, secretly through random matchmaking.”

He added, “I’ve been asking questions and learning what you find fun and engaging.” This hands-on approach helped the team better understand player preferences and pain points, ensuring future updates align with community expectations.

Semiwork remains committed to refining REPO based on player input. More updates are planned, and the team has promised to share further details soon. Stay tuned for the latest news by following our ongoing coverage of REPO.
