Hopetown, a nonlinear RPG from Longdue Games, offers a unique narrative-driven experience. Founded by former employees of ZA/UM, Rockstar Games, and Bungie, the studio has unveiled its debut title, a spiritual successor to the acclaimed Disco Elysium. The game plunges players into the role of a journalist waking up in a remote mining town with a brutal hangover. The mystery begins: piecing together the events of the previous night while navigating escalating local tensions, players must decide whether to mediate the conflict or stoke the flames.

Gameplay, as shown in screenshots, is heavily dialogue-driven, with player choices significantly shaping the narrative. Multiple character archetypes offer distinct dialogue options and approaches to conversations. Even seemingly minor interactions, like speaking with an old woman feeding pigeons, can yield drastically different outcomes depending on the player's chosen tone.
Longdue Games is gearing up for a Kickstarter campaign to fund Hopetown's development, with a dedicated page already live on the platform. While a release date remains unannounced, anticipation is growing amongst fans of narrative-focused RPGs.
Hopetown isn't alone in its Disco Elysium-inspired approach. Dark Math Games and Summer Eternal are also developing their own psychological RPGs, further demonstrating the enduring influence of this genre-defining title.
