While DOOM: The Dark Ages was arguably the main highlight of the Xbox Developer_Direct for gamers, it wasn't the only major announcement. During the showcase, Koei Tecmo revealed Ninja Gaiden 4, a sequel to the beloved action series, slated for release in fall 2025.
The debut trailer showcases an intense action-slashing experience starring the legendary ninja Ryu Hayabusa. Ninja Gaiden 4 is introducing new mechanics to the franchise, including the ability to navigate environments rapidly using grappling wires and rails, as highlighted in the gameplay preview.
The developers highlighted the game's cyberpunk city setting, plagued by perpetual toxic rainfall. Players will battle through swarms of cybernetically enhanced soldiers and horrifying supernatural entities to break an ancient curse gripping the metropolis.
The presentation also featured a comprehensive remaster of Ninja Gaiden 2, which is now available on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S and is included in the Game Pass library.
Team Ninja rebuilt the game in Unreal Engine 5. The team completely overhauled character models, visual effects, and environments, while also integrating elements from later series entries—including three new playable characters.
Koei Tecmo has undertaken a significant effort, and the current buzz from the community is well-deserved.
