Firaxis, the developer behind Civilization 7, has released patch 1.0.1, addressing player concerns following the game's full launch. The initial advanced access period garnered mixed Steam reviews, prompting Firaxis to tackle issues highlighted by the community. These primarily involve the user interface, limited map variety, and a perceived lack of expected features.
Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick acknowledged the negative feedback in an interview with IGN, expressing confidence that the core Civilization fanbase will appreciate the game with further playtime. He characterized the game's early performance as "very encouraging."
With the game now fully accessible, Firaxis has deployed Patch 2 (PC/Mac/Linux/Steam Deck), the first of several planned updates. This patch temporarily disables cross-play multiplayer to streamline PC updates, a decision that will not affect console-to-console or PC-to-PC gameplay.

Civilization 7 1.0.1 Patch 2 - February 10, 2025
Gameplay (Windows PC/Mac/Linux/Steam Deck):
- Resolved an issue causing shortened Ages in Epic and Marathon speed games.
- City-States now transition to Friendly Independent Powers during Age transitions instead of vanishing. They also begin with more units in the Exploration and Modern Ages.
- Addressed inconsistencies in Naval Combat: Naval units now utilize correct combat strength values when attacking other naval units; reciprocal damage is accurately applied; and post-battle movement is improved.
- Completing a Legacy Path milestone no longer grants Modern Age progress, allowing more time for victory conditions.
- Towns automatically revert to growth focus if conditions change (e.g., population decrease).
- The "Future Civic" is now repeatable across all Ages, with increased costs for subsequent selections.
- Fixed an issue where excessive growth bonuses resulted in negative food requirements.
- Rail network reliability improved for settlements connected via water by building ports (provided the capital has a port or rail connection to a port-holding settlement).
- Loyalty Crisis adjustments in the Antiquity Age include the ability to purchase Villas to manage settlement happiness.
A note on cross-play multiplayer: To expedite PC updates, cross-play between PC and console players is temporarily disabled. This does not affect console-to-console or PC-to-PC multiplayer.
AI (Windows PC/Mac/Linux/Steam Deck):
- AI less frequently offers high-value cities during peace deals.
- Reduced AI war declarations at the start of the Modern Age.
- AI considers Ideology more heavily before declaring war or offering peace in the Modern Age.
- Adjusted AI war and peace inclinations based on ideological alignment.
Camera (Windows PC/Mac/Linux/Steam Deck):
- Resolved an issue causing the camera to focus incorrectly on the minimap at native resolutions.
UI (Windows PC/Mac/Linux/Steam Deck):
- Temporarily replaced the Simplified Chinese font with the Civilization VI font.
- Fixed issues with the Settlement menu, yield icons on converted towns, and text truncation on the Global Yields Breakdown screen.
- Added notifications for completed espionage actions.
- Corrected issues with city project purchaseability, religion display in belief pickers, lingering health bars, leader portraits, and alignment on the Age Summary screen.
- Addressed background color persistence in the Player Customize tab and improved spacing on the loading screen.
