The First Capcom Games Competition
Strengthening The Video Game Industry
Capcom has officially launched the Capcom Games Competition, an unprecedented initiative designed to invigorate the video game sector. This competition, exclusively for students in Japan, will leverage Capcom’s state-of-the-art RE ENGINE. The primary goal is to enhance the industry's vitality by fostering research development at educational institutions. Through this industrial-academic partnership, Capcom aims to not only boost the industry but also to nurture future game development talent.
Participants will form teams of up to 20 members, with each member taking on roles that mirror those in professional game development. Over six months, these teams will collaborate to create a game, benefiting from guidance by seasoned Capcom developers. This hands-on experience will immerse students in "cutting-edge game development processes." Furthermore, Capcom is committed to supporting the winners by offering game production assistance and the potential for commercializing their projects.
The application window for the competition opens on December 9, 2024, and will close on January 17, 2025, unless otherwise stated. Eligible participants must be at least 18 years old and currently enrolled in a university, graduate school, or vocational school in Japan.
RE ENGINE, known as Reach for the Moon Engine, is Capcom’s proprietary game development engine, first developed in 2014 for Resident Evil 7: Biohazard. Since its debut, it has powered numerous Capcom titles, including recent Resident Evil games, Dragon’s Dogma 2, Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess, and the upcoming Monster Hunter Wilds. The engine is continuously evolving to support the creation of even more high-quality games.
