The developers at MercurySteam, alumni of Rebel Act Studios, bring a rich heritage to their latest project, Blades of Fire. Their previous work on the cult classic game Severance: Blade of Darkness, released in 2001, showcased a unique combat system that allowed players to sever enemies' limbs, adding a layer of brutality and realism to the gameplay. This iconic title served as a key inspiration for the new team, influencing the development of their current endeavor.
While rooted in the past, the creation of Blades of Fire also embraces influences from contemporary action-adventure games. The developers drew significant inspiration from the cinematic combat and richly detailed world of the God of War reboot by Santa Monica Studio. Their goal was to fuse fast-paced action with RPG elements, crafting an immersive and engaging gaming experience that resonates with today's players.
A standout feature of Blades of Fire is its innovative weapon crafting system. Players can forge their own blades, customizing aspects such as length, weight, durability, and balance. This level of customization enables each player to tailor their weapons to suit their preferred combat style, adding a personal touch to the gameplay.
The game's narrative centers on the warrior Aran de Lira, who embarks on a perilous journey to confront a cunning queen with the power to turn metal into stone. Throughout his adventure, Aran will encounter 50 different types of enemies, each demanding a unique combat strategy to overcome.
Blades of Fire is set to launch on May 22, 2025, and will be available on PC via the Epic Games Store, Xbox Series, and PlayStation 5, offering players across multiple platforms the chance to experience this thrilling new title.
