Marvel Rivals Apologizes for Banning Non-Cheaters

by Anthony Jan 21,2025

NetEase's Marvel Rivals mistakenly bans innocent players. The developer, NetEase, issued a public apology for wrongly banning numerous players who were using compatibility layers like those for macOS, Linux, and Steam Deck. These players were incorrectly flagged as cheaters during a crackdown on actual cheaters. The bans have since been lifted.

NetEase's anti-cheat system mistakenly identified compatibility software as cheating software. This is not the first time Proton, a common compatibility layer for SteamOS, has triggered anti-cheat systems.

The company acknowledged the error and apologized for the inconvenience. They urged players to report actual cheating behavior and offered an appeal process for those wrongly banned.

Meanwhile, a separate issue has arisen regarding in-game character bans. Currently, this feature is only available in Diamond rank and above. Many players, particularly those in lower ranks, are advocating for the implementation of character bans across all ranks to improve gameplay balance and provide a more level playing field.

Players argue that character bans would enhance strategic depth, allow for more diverse team compositions, and provide valuable learning opportunities for newer players. NetEase has yet to publicly respond to these concerns.
