Spectre Divide Backlash Prompts Skin Prices to Lower Soon After Launch

Following significant player backlash, Mountaintop Studios, the developers of the newly released FPS title Spectre Divide, have announced price reductions for in-game skins and bundles just hours after launch. This follows widespread criticism of the initially high prices.

Price Cuts and Refunds

Game director Lee Horn revealed that prices for weapons and character skins have been permanently reduced by 17-25%, depending on the item. To compensate players who purchased items before the price adjustment, Mountaintop Studios is issuing a 30% SP (in-game currency) refund, rounded up to the nearest 100 SP. This refund also applies to those who purchased Founder's or Supporter packs and subsequently bought affected items.

The studio stated, "We've heard your feedback and are making changes," acknowledging the community's concerns. However, prices for Starter packs, Sponsorships, and Endorsement upgrades will remain unchanged.

Mixed Reactions

While some players welcomed the price adjustments, the response has been largely mixed, mirroring the game's current "Mixed" rating on Steam (49% negative at the time of writing). Negative reviews on Steam highlight the initial pricing as a major concern. Social media comments reflect this duality, with some praising the developers for listening to feedback while others remain critical, questioning the timing of the price reduction and expressing concerns about the game's long-term viability given the intense competition in the free-to-play market. Suggestions for further improvements, such as allowing the purchase of individual items from bundles, have also been raised. The overall sentiment suggests that while the price reduction is a step in the right direction, it may not be enough to fully appease the player base.
