Iansan: Genshin Impact's Next Bennett?

Bennett celebrating victoriously

Bennett remains one of the most versatile and valuable support characters in Genshin Impact. Despite being available since launch, he continues to dominate meta team compositions. But could the new Electro Polearm character Iansan potentially dethrone Bennett in Version 5.5?

The Genshin Impact community often jokes that developers inadvertently made Bennett (alongside Xingqiu and Xiangling) excessively powerful, leading to newer support characters being designed with more niche functions. With the upcoming March 26 release of Version 5.5, many are comparing the new 4-Star Electro Polearm user Iansan to Bennett, labeling her as his potential replacement.

Comparing Iansan's and Bennett's Gameplay Mechanics

This Natlan-born support character shares Bennett's buffing and healing capabilities, but implements them differently. While Bennett requires characters to remain stationary within his Elemental Burst field, Iansan summons a mobile Kinetic Energy Scale that tracks your active character, boosting ATK based on her Nightsoul Points.

Iansan's ATK buff scales differently depending on her Nightsoul reserves:

  • Below 42/54 Points: Scales with both Nightsoul reserves and ATK
  • Above 42 Points: Scales purely with ATK

However, her buff requires constant movement from the active character - both horizontal and vertical motion counts. The Scale measures movement distance to restore Iansan's Nightsoul Points.

While both characters provide healing, Bennett significantly outperforms in this aspect:

  • Bennett heals up to 70% HP and can heal himself
  • Iansan's healing is weaker and doesn't affect herself

Key Differences Between the Characters

The comparison reveals crucial distinctions:

  • Elemental Contribution: Bennett's C6 provides Pyro infusion while Iansan offers no Electro infusion
  • Exploration Utility: Iansan can sprint and jump farther using Nightsoul Points without stamina consumption
  • Team Synergy: Bennett synergizes better with Pyro teams through Elemental Resonance

Choosing Between Bennett and Iansan

Rather than replacing Bennett outright, Iansan serves as:

  • A mobile alternative to Bennett's stationary buff field
  • A viable option for second teams in Spiral Abyss
  • A solution against "Circle Impact" gameplay limitations

Players eager to test Iansan can obtain her starting March 26 during Phase I of Version 5.5.

Genshin Impact is currently available across multiple platforms.
