Halo Infinite's "Summer 2025 Update," running through June 10, is now live.
The update introduces new playlists, the Mutilator power weapon, sandbox enhancements, fresh Forge tools, additional weapons on the Weapon Bench, and more—including 50 new tiers, four armor sets, bonus XP, and an extra challenge slot for players who upgrade to the Premium Operation Pass.
For some, this feels like too little, too late. Halo Infinite has undergone major transformations over the past few years, including the rebranding of its developer, 343 Industries to Halo Studios. This shift followed a sharp decline in player numbers after launch, as fans voiced frustration over limited content, weak progression systems, aggressive monetization, and more—such as a “game-changing” battle royale mode that was canceled.
Others, however, believe Halo Infinite has never been better.
In a Reddit thread titled "Halo Infinite REALLY should do a 'relaunch' ad campaign. It's just not the same game as at launch. Not even close," one fan wrote: "I can’t imagine anyone who enjoys Halo but hasn’t given this game a try—or hasn’t played since launch—being disappointed when they return. And I doubt they, or the wider gaming community, realize just how much has been added and changed."I didn’t play for months. When I came back, there were three new guns, countless new maps, multiple new Firefight modes, and endless things to grind for and unlock. That’s just from a few-month break. I truly believe this game would see a massive surge with a strong trailer showcasing everything added since launch. It would do wonders for its reputation.
"I keep seeing people criticize this game for things that haven’t been true in years," they continued. "Three new pieces of equipment, five new guns, nearly a hundred new maps or more, about ten new game modes, hundreds of new armor pieces, a vastly improved free credit shop, quadrupled ranked playlists to grind through (finally, what I’ve been asking for), and a career rank to pursue. All the past battle passes added up to nearly a thousand tiers? One of them was even completely free with amazing armor. An incredible, incredible Forge, awesome custom games, a custom games browser—something only Halo 5 had before—Firefight, and enemy and friendly AI in Forge."
"I wholeheartedly agree—it’s easily the best Halo since [Halo 3] and the best 343 has ever made. It just took time to get here, but I never left, so watching it evolve has been a blast," agreed one, while another replied: "I feel the same. I have a friend who wrote it off early and never came back. He’s still trash-talking the game, and I keep telling him it’s solid now—but he won’t listen."
"Multiplayer-wise, it’s the best Halo ever made," added another fan.

In a different thread where the OP shared Halo Infinite’s iconic marketing image of Master Chief holding his helmet at his side, someone asked: "How does everyone feel about this picture now that we’ve seen what Halo Infinite has become?"
"I really love Infinite. I’ve been playing since around mid-Season 1—it reignited my passion for a series I’d walked away from during Halo 4. It has the best Spartan customization, and I love how different modes rotate constantly. Custom games are fun, the campaign is engaging and unique, and the music is phenomenal," responded another.
"Approaching my first Onyx rank and on track to be the first Halo game where I’ve hit max career rank. The gameplay feels incredibly fluid and organic—blending the classic Halo feel with modern upgrades (and sprint? Absolutely incredible). Even though I still revisit the old games, Infinite has my favorite gameplay overall. The game has outgrown its launch state and keeps improving. I’m excited for what’s ahead and truly believe Infinite is one of my all-time favorites in the series!"
"It’s the best arena shooter on Xbox right now," replied another. "Halo Infinite satisfies that itch I wish COD would."
One less enthusiastic fan said: "This image is the last flicker of hope I had. I truly believe Halo’s golden era is over—the people who knew how to create its magic are gone."

We had a fantastic experience with Halo Infinite’s single-player campaign back in 2021, giving it a 9/10 in the IGN Halo Infinite review, writing: "Halo Infinite’s single-player campaign is exactly what this series needed. It highlights Master Chief’s distinctive and satisfying combat style while reimagining classic elements into fresh, memorable moments. Its story stumbles for both new and veteran players, but it was worth the six-year wait."
With Microsoft’s multiplatform game release strategy in full effect, some Xbox fans are now wondering if Halo will soon come to PlayStation, following titles like Forza Horizon 5 and Gears of War. Back in November, Microsoft’s gaming lead, Phil Spencer, said there are no “red lines” in its first-party lineup.
