The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered PC players encountered issues following a surprising update released today, but Bethesda has confirmed a solution is in the works.
Earlier today, players discovered that Virtuos's extensive re-release had received an unannounced update. With no patch notes or clear explanation of the changes, many continued their gaming sessions as usual. However, some soon realized that this initial Oblivion Remastered update was creating more issues than it resolved.
Yoooo why would @virtuosgames push an update to Oblivion Remastered that removes all upscaling right before the games first weekend?!!?

“You can no longer switch between upscaling methods,” one Reddit user noted. “It's locked to ‘off’, and although the arrows are clickable, nothing changes. So I closed the game, disabled fluid motion in the NVidia app (I was testing something before the patch), and restarted. My save file now takes much longer to load, and I still can't adjust the upscaling settings.
“Now I'm stuck with 40-60 fps on high settings, even with a 5800X3D and a 5080. Great update :D”
While some players haven't observed significant performance changes, others are reporting new challenges with low framerates. Many have also mentioned that upscaling options have been completely locked, leaving players with serious visual problems just before Oblivion Remastered's first weekend.
Bethesda eventually addressed player concerns in a post on its official support page. Regarding the purpose of today's Oblivion Remastered update, the post stated that the patch simply involved “a few backend adjustments with no direct impact on gameplay.” Unfortunately, it appears that players who own Oblivion Remastered through the Microsoft Store are experiencing issues with upscaling and anti-aliasing options.
“Any graphic settings configured before the Microsoft Store hotfix remain enabled and work as intended," Bethesda explained. "However, you will temporarily be unable to modify those settings due to an issue with the settings interface. The team is investigating and working on a fix; we will share updates as soon as possible."
For now, it's unclear exactly when a resolution for what was meant to be a subtle hotfix will arrive. In the meantime, it seems that PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X | S console players can continue enjoying the game without any problems.
