The long-awaited details of Nintendo's rumored Nintendo Switch upgrade have finally been unveiled, and the specifications are more impressive than many anticipated. The Nintendo Switch 2 not only supports up to 120fps but also delivers up to 4K resolution when docked, marking a significant leap in performance.
During today's Nintendo Switch 2 Direct, Nintendo showcased various features of the new system. The Nintendo Switch 2 boasts a larger 7.9-inch built-in screen compared to its predecessor, yet maintains the same thickness of 13.9mm. With approximately double the pixels, it supports a 1080p display in handheld mode at up to 120fps. The screen is an LCD and supports HDR, which extends to 4K resolution and HDR when docked.
The new Joy-Con 2 controllers feature a magnetic connection and can be detached using a release button on the back. The SL and SR buttons are larger, enhancing playability in horizontal mode, while the left and right sticks are also bigger. This segment also officially introduced mouse control support within the Joy-Con controllers.
The handheld Nintendo Switch 2 comes equipped with a built-in microphone featuring noise-canceling technology and supports 3D audio for compatible games. It also includes a more robust and adjustable stand than the original Nintendo Switch, capable of varying heights. Additionally, a top USB port allows for external camera connectivity or charging the system in tabletop mode.
