Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has surpassed one million copies sold, publisher Kepler Interactive announced.
The debut RPG from developer Sandfall Interactive was already off to a strong start, achieving 500,000 copies sold within 24 hours—a milestone it has now doubled.
"Three days after launch, we’ve reached one million copies sold. Thank you for believing in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33," the studio shared on social media over the weekend.
That’s not the game’s only achievement. SteamDB data shows that over the weekend, Clair Obscur reached a concurrent peak of 121,422 players on Steam. This number significantly outpaces the concurrent peaks of any other title from acclaimed RPG developer Atlus—including the well-received Metaphor: ReFantazio, which launched in October 2024 and reached a concurrent peak of 85,961 players.
Of course, concurrent records don’t represent the full player base. Since Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 launched on PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S as a day-one Xbox Game Pass Ultimate title, the actual number of players over the weekend is likely much higher. This suggests that the game is currently enjoying widespread popularity.
In IGN’s 9/10 review of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, we called it a "modern RPG classic." Developed by the new studio Sandfall Interactive, the turn-based RPG draws strong inspiration from genre classics. It follows a team of Expeditioners in a post-apocalyptic world where a giant entity known as The Paintress carves a new number each year, erasing everyone older than that number. In Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, you join the crew on a mission to journey across the continent and destroy the Paintress.
