Bob Gale, co-creator of the iconic *Back to the Future* franchise, has a blunt message for fans eagerly awaiting a new installment: "F**k you." In a candid interview with Yahoo, the writer and producer of all three films, along with his collaborator Robert Zemeckis, firmly stated that there are no plans for a canonical continuation of the beloved science fiction series.
During a backstage conversation at the Saturn Awards, Gale addressed the frequent fan inquiries about a potential *Back to the Future 4*. His response was direct and unambiguous: "People always say, 'When are you going to do *Back to the Future 4*,' and we say, 'F**k you.'" This strong stance comes at a time when reboots and sequels are rampant in the film industry, often met with mixed reception, as seen with films like *The Matrix Resurrections* and *Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny*.
The original *Back to the Future* film, released in 1985, follows the adventures of high school student Marty McFly, who is accidentally sent back in time by the eccentric scientist Doc Brown. Despite becoming one of the most iconic sci-fi films ever, its sequels, which were filmed and released consecutively in 1989 and 1990, did not achieve the same level of acclaim.
Despite the absence of new films for over three decades, the *Back to the Future* franchise continues to thrive through its lasting legacy and influence. This includes a successful Broadway musical adaptation. Gale also revealed plans for a stage production on Royal Caribbean Cruises and mentioned his collaboration with Michael J. Fox, the actor who portrayed Marty McFly, on a forthcoming book about Fox's experiences.
