Epic Unveils New 4-Player PvE Mode, Lego-Style Helldivers

by Lillian Oct 03,2025

Long before Fortnite became the battle royale juggernaut we know today, Epic Games initially launched their shooter as a cooperative PVE experience called Save the World, where teams fought together against zombie hordes.

Now, Fortnite revisits its origins with Lego Fortnite Expeditions - a new mission-based PVE mode supporting up to four players. This fresh offering blends the game's existing Lego mechanics with gameplay reminiscent of PlayStation's Helldivers.

In Expeditions, players deploy from the Academy hub where they select combat missions across three distinct locations. Successful missions contribute to global Team Projects that unlock buffs for all participants and new mission types. Between operations, players can relax at the Academy and complete Assignments from various Fortnite characters.

Expeditions introduces three map locations and three upgradable hero classes. The Shadow Caller offers aerial mobility and explosive ranged attacks, plus the ability to enter Shadow Form for tactical retreats. Hunters wield the Bull's-eye Blade, enhancing damage output for all squad members. Meanwhile, the Rift Ripper warps across battlefields, fires crystalline projectiles, and amplifies allies' abilities.

Epic Games designed Expeditions as Fortnite's next permanent mode, becoming the third major Lego experience alongside survival-focused Lego Odyssey and the simulation-style Lego Brick Life. Unlike these standalone offerings, Expeditions directly ties into the Battle Royale mode's ongoing narrative and antagonist.

At launch, players will confront Mask Maker Daigo and his forces while teaming with Battle Royale heroes like Jonesy and Hope. The mode's trailer also features the current season's Super branding and its headline crossover character, Superman - suggesting potential future tie-ins with evolving Battle Royale themes.

This expansion arrives during Fortnite's new superhero season, following the explosive conclusion of its Star Wars Death Star event. June 18 brings two significant additions: the mobile-friendly 32-player Blitz Royale mode and this Lego Fortnite Expeditions update.
