Capcom announces a remastered version of the original Dead Rising, titled Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster, nearly a decade after the last mainline entry. The original 2006 title, initially exclusive to Xbox 360, received an enhanced port in 2016, but this new remaster promises even better performance and visuals for current-gen consoles.
Following the success of numerous Resident Evil remakes, Capcom's decision to revisit Dead Rising is noteworthy. While Dead Rising 4 (2016) received mixed reviews, potentially contributing to the franchise's extended hiatus, this remaster suggests a renewed interest. A brief 40-second trailer showcasing Frank West's iconic helicopter entrance hints at a release later this year, though platforms remain unconfirmed.
The Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster announcement sparks speculation about potential remasters of the sequels. However, given Capcom's focus on the highly successful Resident Evil remakes, a full-scale remake approach for Dead Rising seems less likely. This strategic prioritization might explain the prolonged absence of new Dead Rising titles. Nevertheless, the possibility of a Dead Rising 5 remains a tantalizing prospect for fans.
Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster joins a growing list of 2024 remasters and remakes, including critically acclaimed titles like Persona 3 Reload, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, and Star Wars: Dark Forces Remaster. If released this year, it will also share company with other Xbox 360-era remasters such as Epic Mickey: Rebrushed and Lollipop Chainsaw: RePOP.
