Path of Exile 1 Update Delayed Due to Path of Exile 2 Issues
Grinding Gear Games (GGG) has apologized for delaying Path of Exile 1's 3.26 update, originally slated for late October 2024, then mid-February 2025. The delay is attributed to the unexpected challenges encountered with Path of Exile 2's launch.
GGG had committed to supporting Path of Exile 1 alongside the release of Path of Exile 2. However, the Path of Exile 1 team was reassigned to address critical endgame issues in Path of Exile 2 before its December 2024 launch. While initially believing they could return to Path of Exile 1's 3.26 update in time for its February target, the severity of Path of Exile 2's problems—including crashes and balance issues—made this impossible.
In a video message, Game Director Jonathan Rogers acknowledged the studio's miscalculation, stating they were "fooling ourselves" about the timeline. He explained the decision to prioritize Path of Exile 2, emphasizing the need to address its immediate problems.
The delay means Path of Exile 1 players must wait longer for the 3.26 update. While a release date remains unconfirmed, Rogers assured players that GGG has a plan for 3.26's eventual release and is committed to learning from this experience to better manage simultaneous game development.
Path of Exile 2 launched successfully on December 6th, 2024, for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, achieving significant player numbers and ranking as one of Steam's most-played games.
