Valorant's New Anti-Cheat Measure: Ranked Rollbacks
Valorant is escalating its fight against cheaters with the introduction of ranked rollbacks. This new anti-cheat strategy will reverse the rank or progress of players whose matches were compromised by hackers. The goal is to deter cheating and ensure fair gameplay for all Valorant players.
The recent surge in cheating activity prompted Riot Games to take decisive action. Phillip Koskinas, Riot's head of anti-cheat, confirmed the issue and emphasized the studio's strengthened capabilities to combat cheating, stating they can now "hit so much harder." He highlighted the substantial number of bans issued through Valorant's Vanguard anti-cheat system in January, demonstrating the ongoing effort.
This new rollback system addresses a key concern: players unfairly affected by teammates using cheats. Koskinas clarified that players on the same team as a cheater will retain their rank rating, preventing them from suffering undeserved losses. While acknowledging potential inflationary effects on the ranking system, Riot believes this approach is necessary.
Valorant's Vanguard, a kernel-level anti-cheat system, has a proven track record of success. Its effectiveness has led other games, such as Call of Duty, to adopt similar approaches. Despite past successes in banning thousands of cheaters, the persistent nature of cheating necessitates ongoing adaptation and stronger countermeasures.
The long-term effectiveness of ranked rollbacks remains to be seen, but Riot Games' commitment to a fair and cheat-free Valorant experience is clear. This proactive approach signifies a significant step in the ongoing battle against online cheating.
