Where to Upgrade Weapons and Armor in *Avowed*
In Avowed, weapon and armor upgrades happen at the Workbench (pictured above). Each upgrade requires specific materials, varying by weapon/armor type and quality. Most materials are readily found or craftable, but upgrading between qualities necessitates progressively rarer Adra.
Workbenches are located at Party Camps, established near Adra Waystones. Locate a Waystone, interact with it to set up camp, and the camp (marked by a tent icon on your map) becomes a fast travel point.
Understanding Weapon and Armor Leveling in *Avowed*
Weapon and armor power in Avowed is tracked via Quality, indicated by a numerical value, color rarity, and descriptive adjective. This directly correlates to enemy levels in the Living Lands. Gear with lower quality than encountered enemies will be less effective.
Facing higher-level enemies with inferior gear results in reduced damage output and weaker protection. Conversely, using appropriately leveled gear provides significant advantages. Here's the quality breakdown:
- Common: Green, Level I
- Fine: Blue, Level II
- Exceptional: Purple, Level III
- Superb: Red, Level IV
- Legendary: Gold, Level V
Each Quality allows for three additional upgrade tiers (+0 to +3). While less impactful than quality increases, these still boost stats. All three + tiers must be upgraded before advancing to the next Quality level.
Which Weapons and Armor to Upgrade in *Avowed*
Beyond Quality and its sub-tiers, Avowed gear is categorized as standard or unique. Standard gear is commonly found or purchased, while unique items (named, proper-noun items) are acquired through quests or boss drops. Some unique gear may be available from merchants.
Unique gear can reach Legendary Quality, unlike standard gear (which maxes at Superb). Unique items also possess additional bonuses and perks. Therefore, prioritize upgrading unique weapons and armor, reserving resources for them. Standard gear serves as a temporary placeholder until better equipment is found, and can be sold or salvaged for upgrade materials.
