An exciting new tech demo powered by Unreal Engine 5.5.3 has hit the scene, immersing players in a mesmerizing walkthrough of a futuristic cyberpunk city. This innovative project, crafted by the talented artist Sciontidesign, takes cues from the iconic Samaritan UE3 demo, the visually striking Blade Runner franchise, and the immersive world of Cyberpunk 2077. The demo was showcased on top-tier hardware, including an NVIDIA RTX 5090 GPU, an AMD Ryzen 9 7950X3D CPU, and 32GB of DDR5 RAM running at 6000MHz, delivering a high-performance experience.
This technical demonstration is a testament to the power of dynamic lighting, showcasing the advanced capabilities of Nanite with Distance Field Meshes and Ambient Occlusion, enhanced by Screen Space Reflections. Impressively, the demo does not rely on advanced features such as Lumen, Path Tracing, RTX, DLSS, or baked lighting, yet it still manages to deliver stunning visuals. This approach highlights what Unreal Engine 5 can achieve even without its most sophisticated tools.
While the rain effect in the demo may appear somewhat artificial, the rendering of wet surfaces is exceptionally detailed, adding a rich layer of depth to the urban environment. However, the experience is marred by frequent invisible walls, which can disrupt the sense of immersion. Despite the consistently visually stunning experiences provided by Unreal Engine 5 tech demos, it's worth noting that games built on this engine often face performance challenges when applied in real-world scenarios.
