How to Unlock Caldarus as a Romanceable Character in Fields of Mistria

To begin your romantic journey with Caldarus in Fields of Mistria, you must first break the Fire Seal located on Floor 60 of the mines. To do this, you'll need to offer four specific items: a Sealing Scroll, a Faceted Rock Gem, an Emerald, and a Rockroot. Upon completing the offering, a dramatic cutscene unfolds where the Mines Priestess warns of the dangers of staying in the area. As your character's health depletes, Caldarus heroically appears, transforming into his human form and granting you the Dragon’s Breath spell before retreating to the Deep Woods.

With Caldarus now in human form, you can interact with him daily, offering gifts and engaging in conversations similar to other romanceable NPCs in Mistria. After breaking the Fire Seal, you'll find Caldarus exclusively at his temple in the Deep Woods. Use the Dragon’s Breath spell to permanently unlock this area on your map, allowing for regular visits.

Caldarus’ Heart Events in Fields of Mistria

Upon unlocking Caldarus as a romanceable character, he starts with a heart level of six, which is currently the maximum. Unfortunately, there are no additional heart events available for him at this stage, though future updates may expand on this. Currently, the game features two cutscenes involving Caldarus: an introductory dream sequence that showcases Mistria's magic system and gameplay mechanics, and a pivotal scene where Caldarus rescues you from being sealed, revealing his human form and retreating to recover.

With the March 2025 update, you can now embark on a real date with Caldarus during the Shooting Star Festival, held on Summer 28.

The Shooting Star Festival

The Shooting Star Festival marks the end of summer in Fields of Mistria and offers a chance to go on a date with any romanceable NPC who has at least four hearts. Since Caldarus starts at six hearts, you're automatically eligible to invite him. To attend with Caldarus, gift him a Star Brooch before 8 PM on Summer 28 and meet him afterward to confirm your attendance. This triggers a special cutscene where you watch the stars at the Summit.

During your date, Caldarus expresses gratitude for the invitation and shares insights into the stars and the ancient Mistrian tradition of Starbinding. The conversation touches on deep themes of soul connections and the necessity of villains in stories, hinting at deeper narrative elements. As the night progresses, Caldarus, feeling fatigued, invites you to continue watching the stars from his temple.
