According to a recent Bloomberg report, Warner Bros. has canceled an unannounced paid DLC for Hogwarts Legacy. The planned story expansion was set to release this year alongside a "Definitive Edition" of the game. Sources cited by Bloomberg indicate that the decision to cancel the DLC came this week, primarily due to concerns that "the amount of content was not substantial enough to justify the price being considered." Warner Bros. declined to comment on the matter when approached by Bloomberg.
This move comes amidst ongoing financial struggles and a significant restructuring of Warner Bros.' gaming division. Earlier this year, the company made headlines by canceling its planned Wonder Woman game and shutting down the studio behind it, Monolith Productions, as well as WB San Diego and the MultiVersus studio, Player First Games. Additionally, Warner Bros. laid off employees at Rocksteady as recently as last September.
Despite the cancellation of the Hogwarts Legacy DLC, Warner Bros. continues to emphasize the importance of the Harry Potter franchise and Hogwarts Legacy as key assets. The company has publicly stated that a sequel to the game is "one of the biggest priorities" as it shifts focus towards fewer but larger franchises. The original Hogwarts Legacy has been a commercial success, selling over 30 million copies.
