"Ultimate Engine Tweaks: The Must-Have Mod for Oblivion Remastered's PC Performance"

by Eric May 14,2025

If you're among the countless fans of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered on PC, you might have encountered its fair share of challenges. According to the tech gurus at Digital Foundry, the game suffers from severe performance issues. Video producer Alex Battaglia went as far as labeling it "perhaps one of the worst-running games I've ever tested for Digital Foundry."

Battaglia elaborated, "Even if you're running the most powerful hardware available, the stuttering is so bad it significantly detracts from the gaming experience. It's baffling how this was deemed acceptable for release." He further noted that the game is unusually demanding on system resources, suggesting that players might need to lower settings just to maintain a decent frame rate, even if they can tolerate the stuttering.

PlayGiven these issues, it's no surprise that the most popular mod for Oblivion Remastered on Nexus Mods is P40L0's 'Ultimate Engine Tweaks (Anti-Stutters - Lower Latency - No Film Grain - No Chromatic Aberration - Lossless),' which has seen an impressive 386,604 downloads in under a week.

The mod description states, "Definitive Unreal ‘Engine.ini’ changes aimed at eliminating most stutters, boosting performance and stability, reducing input latency, and enhancing visual clarity, all without compromising the visual quality."

P40L0 shared, "After months of UE5 testing, I wanted to share my definitive custom ‘Engine.ini’ changes for the game. My objective was to incorporate as many optimizations as possible across CPU, GPU, RAM, and SSD to minimize stuttering, enhance performance, reduce input latency, and improve image quality by eliminating Film Grain and Chromatic Aberration, optimizing DLSS/FSR upscaling, and more, all without causing visual loss or introducing glitches or crashes."

Feedback from users who have tried the mod has been overwhelmingly positive. Chubbyd07 exclaimed, "Stutter be gone! Simply amazing, thanks!" Yeeto51 added, "This .ini is a miracle. From 15-20 fps outside the prison to 65-70 stable. Running on 3600XT and a 2060 with 20GB of RAM (yes)." BabaSmith marveled, "Uhm, what the hell! I went from 60fps on High Preset around Waynon Priory to 90-110fps on the same location. Wizardry!!"

Despite the PC version's issues, Oblivion Remastered continues to attract a large audience, boasting an impressive peak concurrent player count on Steam and over 4 million players across all platforms. On Steam, the game maintains a 'very positive' user review rating.

However, a recent hotfix released on April 25 has caused problems for Microsoft Store players, particularly affecting the UI settings for graphics, specifically upscaling and anti-aliasing options. Currently, players using the Microsoft Store version (including those via Game Pass for PC) are unable to adjust these settings due to this issue. Bethesda has acknowledged the problem and is working on a solution.
