Final Trailer Unleashes New D-Rex and Mutadon Thrills

NBC Universal unveils the final trailer for Jurassic World: Rebirth, showcasing pivotal story moments and detailed looks at both classic and newly designed dinosaurs.

Starring Scarlett Johansson, Jonathan Bailey, and Mahershala Ali, Jurassic World: Rebirth follows an extraction team racing to Earth's most perilous location: an island research facility from the original Jurassic Park, now overrun by the deadliest creatures left behind. Directed by Gareth Edwards (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story) and written by original Jurassic Park screenwriter David Koepp.

Here is the official synopsis:

Five years after Jurassic World Dominion, the planet's ecology remains largely hostile to dinosaurs. The surviving creatures inhabit isolated equatorial zones with climates akin to their prehistoric heyday. Within this tropical biosphere, three colossal creatures—ruling land, sea, and air—hold within their DNA the key to a revolutionary drug with the potential to save countless human lives.
Academy Award nominee Scarlett Johansson portrays Zora Bennett, a seasoned covert operations expert hired to lead a specialized team on a top-secret mission to secure this genetic material. When Zora's operation crosses paths with a civilian family stranded after a boating accident caused by predatory aquatic dinosaurs, all are forced onto a forbidden island that once housed a clandestine Jurassic Park research facility. There, in a landscape teeming with diverse dinosaur species, they uncover a sinister secret hidden from the world for decades.

What does the final trailer reveal? A key highlight is the river raft sequence from Michael Crichton's Jurassic Park novel. Screenwriter David Koepp previously mentioned revisiting Crichton's books for inspiration, as this sequel lacks a direct literary source. He incorporated an unused sequence from the first novel that never made it into the 1993 film. "There was a sequence from the first novel we always wanted to include but couldn't fit," Koepp explained. "Now, we finally have the chance to use it."

Can a T-Rex swim? The answer, it seems, is yes.

The trailer also introduces several new dinosaurs, including a clearer look at the 'D-Rex,' officially named Distortus Rex. This mutant hybrid, created for Rebirth, blends traits of a T-Rex with the monstrous Rancor from Star Wars. Director Gareth Edwards described it to Empire: "Imagine a T-Rex designed by H.R. Giger, then crossed with a Rancor."

Meet the Distortus Rex, or D-Rex. Does it remind you of a Rancor?

Also featured are winged Mutadons, which Koepp describes as "a hybrid of a pterosaur and a raptor."

Jurassic Park always delivers a terrifying raptor scene. This time, meet the Mutadons.
