Ubisoft has recently unveiled an in-depth look at the gameplay mechanics of Assassin's Creed: Shadows, with a special focus on the equipment and progression systems for the two protagonists, Yasuke and Naoe. One of the most exciting features for fans is the enhanced functionality of the iconic Hidden Blade, which promises to bring a thrilling experience to the gameplay.
Both Yasuke and Naoe will have their own unique skill trees, reflecting their distinct combat styles. Yasuke, the samurai, will have skills tailored to his mastery of samurai techniques, while Naoe, the shinobi, will focus on stealth and agility. Players can allocate skill points to unlock new weapon-specific abilities or to enhance their fighting techniques. These skill points are earned through various in-game activities, such as completing open-world objectives or defeating formidable enemies like the Daisyo samurai.
To maintain a balanced progression, both characters will develop at an equal pace, ensuring neither falls behind. Unlocking powerful abilities will involve specific tasks, such as tracking down a secretive shinobi group. Additionally, progression is linked to the "Knowledge" scale, which players can advance by studying ancient manuscripts or praying at sacred shrines. Achieving the sixth rank on the Knowledge scale will unlock an entirely new skill tree, adding depth to the game's progression system.
Ubisoft also detailed the equipment system, which categorizes items into five quality tiers: common, uncommon, rare, epic, and legendary. Players can upgrade their gear at a blacksmith, and they have the option to customize their equipment visually. Special perks attached to armor and weapons can significantly alter gameplay dynamics, providing a personalized experience.
The Hidden Blade remains a central element of the game, capable of executing instant kills with a single strike, a feature that fans of the series will undoubtedly appreciate. Assassin's Creed: Shadows is set to launch globally on March 20, available on PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PS5, offering players an immersive journey through its richly detailed world.
