In *Avowed*, maintaining upgraded weapons is crucial for success. Early in the game, you'll mostly encounter Common, or Level I, weapons and enemies. As you progress, these will scale to Level II, necessitating Fine gear to handle the increased challenge. Here’s how you can acquire Tier II/Fine weapons and armor in *Avowed*.
How to Upgrade Weapons and Armor from Common (I) to Fine (II) in Avowed
While some weapons and armor can be found or bought directly as Fine Quality, others need upgrading to achieve this level. In *Avowed*, gear effectiveness is measured in two ways: Quality and Levels. Quality is indicated by a descriptor, color, and Roman numeral. Common gear, marked in green, is denoted with I, while Fine gear, marked in blue, is denoted with II. Between these Qualities, there are three additional levels ranging from +1 to +3.
To upgrade your gear from Common (I) to Fine (II), visit a Party Camp where you'll find a workbench for upgrades. You must progress through each level from +1 to +3, each requiring specific materials based on the gear type. After reaching +3, you can elevate the gear to Fine (II) using Adra, a rare and valuable crystal. Adra can be obtained from completing Quests, buying from Merchants, or by dismantling Unique weapons and armor.
Where to Find and Purchase Fine (II) Weapons and Armor in Avowed
Upgrading gear can be resource-intensive. Fortunately, Fine (II) weapons and armor can also be found in the Living Lands, particularly in Dawnshore, albeit rarely. These items often drop from Level II enemies, especially Bounties. However, using Common gear against Level II enemies can be risky due to their lower damage output and resistance, so stock up on health potions.
Alternatively, you can purchase Fine weapons and armor from Merchants in Paradis. Access to Paradis becomes available after defeating the Dreamscourge-infested bear boss in Dawnshore early in the Main Quest. In Paradis, near the Bounty Board, a pair of sister Merchants sell valuable Fine gear. Merlylin specializes in magical items like grimoires and wands, while her blacksmith sister offers standard weapons and armor, as shown in the image above.
