T-1000 Gameplay in Mortal Kombat 1 Echoes Terminator 2, Surprise Kameo DLC Revealed

by Nathan May 06,2025

NetherRealm Studios, the developer behind Mortal Kombat 1, has unveiled exciting new content with the first gameplay footage of the T-1000 as a DLC guest character and the confirmation of Madam Bo as a DLC Kameo fighter. This addition promises to rekindle fans' nostalgia and add a fresh twist to the game.

The T-1000's gameplay showcases an array of attacks that evoke memories of the iconic Terminator 2, including the use of blade and hook arms. Fans will notice similarities to other Mortal Kombat characters like Baraka and Kabal. A highlight of the T-1000's abilities includes transforming into a liquid metal blob and executing an uppercut reminiscent of Glacius from Killer Instinct.

Voiced by Robert Patrick, who portrayed the T-1000 in the 1991 film, the character's inclusion brings authenticity to the game. The teaser features Patrick's voice in a battle against Johnny Cage, culminating in a Fatality that recreates the thrilling truck chase from Terminator 2. In this dramatic finish, the T-1000 morphs out of the driver's seat to deliver a lethal barrage of bullets to Cage.

PlaySimultaneously, NetherRealm surprised fans by announcing Madam Bo as a new Kameo fighter. A beloved character from Mortal Kombat 1's story mode, Madam Bo is an elderly restaurant owner known for her fierce defense against Smoke and his goons. The teaser briefly showcases her in action, assisting the T-1000 in a battle against Johnny Cage.

The T-1000 will be available in Mortal Kombat 1 starting March 18 during the early access period for Khaos Reigns owners, with a wider release for purchase on March 25. Madam Bo will also be available on March 18 as a free content update for Khaos Reigns owners or as a standalone purchase.

As the final DLC character of the Khaos Reigns expansion, the T-1000 joins a roster that includes Cyrax, Sektor, Noob Saibot, Ghostface, and Conan the Barbarian. While fans speculate about the possibility of a Kombat Pack 3, NetherRealm has yet to confirm any plans for additional DLC characters.

Despite questions about Mortal Kombat 1's sales performance, Warner Bros. Discovery remains committed to the franchise. In November, CEO David Zaslav announced plans to focus on four key titles, including Mortal Kombat.

Madam Bo is set to enhance the gameplay experience as a Kameo fighter. In September, Mortal Kombat development chief Ed Boon revealed that NetherRealm had decided on its next game three years prior but assured continued support for Mortal Kombat 1.

Speculation abounds that NetherRealm's next project might be a third installment in the Injustice series, though neither the studio nor Warner Bros. has confirmed this. The Injustice franchise, which began with Injustice: Gods Among Us in 2013 and continued with Injustice 2 in 2017, has been on hold since the release of Mortal Kombat 11 in 2019 and the subsequent soft reboot, Mortal Kombat 1, in 2023.

In a June 2023 interview with IGN, Boon hinted at the reasons behind the decision to focus on another Mortal Kombat game, citing the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and the transition to a newer version of the Unreal game engine. Despite these challenges, Boon emphasized that the door remains open for future Injustice games, reassuring fans that the franchise is far from over.
