Sega Playfully Pokes Fun at Mario Kart World Announcement

In other Sonic-related news, the franchise is preparing for the release of Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds in 2025. But it seems Nintendo isn’t far behind, having recently announced Mario Kart World during a dedicated Nintendo Direct for the Switch 2, scheduled to launch June 5, 2025.

Sega took to X (formerly Twitter) on April 3 with what appeared to be a lighthearted but cheeky response to Nintendo’s big reveal. Starting with "Big day for worldly racing games!", Sega acknowledged the announcement of Mario Kart World. However, the post quickly shifted focus by highlighting that Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds would be "the ONLY upcoming kart racer you can play with your friends."

This kind of friendly rivalry between Sega and Nintendo is nothing new, but it adds an exciting layer to what could be a competitive year for kart-racing fans.
