EA and Maxis are celebrating the 25th anniversary of The Sims franchise with a delightful surprise for fans. Today, they have re-released The Sims 1 and The Sims 2 for PC through two Legacy Collections and the enticing The Sims 25th Birthday Bundle.
EA has announced the release of The Sims: Legacy Collection and The Sims 2: Legacy Collection, both now available on PC. These collections can be purchased separately or together in the The Sims 25th Birthday Bundle, priced at $40.
Each collection comes packed with all expansions and nearly all stuff packs. Notably, The Sims 2: Legacy Collection does not include the IKEA Home Stuff pack from 2008, but everything else is included. Additionally, both collections offer bonus content: The Sims 1 features the Throwback Fit Kit, while The Sims 2 includes the Grunge Revival Kit, enhancing the already comprehensive add-ons.
This re-release marks the first time in over a decade that both games have been easily accessible. The Sims 1, previously only available on disc, has been challenging to play on modern Windows systems without an old physical copy and the necessary workarounds. The Sims 2 was last available in 2014 through the Ultimate Collection on EA's Origin store, which is no longer accessible. These new Legacy Collections now make all four The Sims games readily available and playable through digital storefronts.
Originally, we rated The Sims 1 at 9.5/10 and The Sims 2 at 8.5/10. While the series has evolved with new features and improvements, the original games remain a treasure for their humor, simplicity, challenge, and enduring legacy.
Both The Sims: Legacy Collection and The Sims 2: Legacy Collection are now available for purchase on Steam, the Epic Games Store, and through the EA app.
