Elden Ring arrives on Nintendo Switch 2 in 2025.
Nintendo shared this exciting, albeit expected, news during its recent Switch 2 Direct presentation. While details remain scarce regarding how the Switch 2 iteration of FromSoftware’s acclaimed open-world title compares to earlier releases, its showcase confirms that Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition will reach Nintendo players later this year.
Since its February 2022 launch, Elden Ring has become a cultural touchstone. The game moved over 13 million copies in just one month and has since sold nearly 29 million units globally. It has inspired unique gameplay moments, such as defeating bosses using the Nintendo Switch’s Ring Fit controller, and sparked ambitious speedrunning records. Following the highly praised Shadow of the Erdtree DLC in 2023, the upcoming co-op spin-off Elden Ring: Nightreign is also showing strong promise based on early public network tests. In our perfect 10/10 review, IGN noted: "Elden Ring represents a massive evolution from FromSoftware’s Souls series, merging its punishing combat with an expansive open world that empowers players to forge their own destiny." The Shadow of the Erdtree expansion also earned a 10/10 score: "Much like the base game before it, Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree sets a new standard for single-player DLC. It distills the core strengths of the original RPG into a tight 20-25 hour campaign while delivering exceptional challenges for dedicated fans."
