Fans of the horror genre continue to be impressed by Bloober Team Studios. The Silent Hill 2 Remake received positive feedback from both long-time series enthusiasts and newcomers, yet the studio is not resting on its laurels.
In a recent episode of the Bonfire Conversations podcast, game director Mateusz Lenart shared an intriguing tidbit: Bloober Team had explored the concept of developing a horror game set within the Lord of the Rings universe. The proposed game would have been a grim survival horror experience, plunging players into the shadowy realms of Middle-earth.
Unfortunately, this project never progressed beyond the conceptual stage due to the inability to secure the rights to the franchise. Many fans believe that such a game would have been a thrilling addition to the genre, given the rich, dark narratives present in Tolkien's works, which are ideal for crafting a suspenseful atmosphere.
Currently, Bloober Team is channeling its efforts into their new project, Cronos: The New Dawn, and may continue their collaboration with Konami on future Silent Hill titles. While it remains uncertain whether they will revisit the idea of a horror game set in Tolkien's universe following their recent success, the concept of encountering terrifying entities like the Nazgûl or Gollum remains captivating.
