Shift Up, the developer behind the action-packed game Stellar Blade, has reported a record-breaking financial year, largely thanks to the success of Stellar Blade. The game generated an impressive $43 million in royalties, contributing significantly to the company's total revenue of $151.4 million for 2024. This marks a substantial 30.4% increase from the previous year, showcasing the game's strong market performance.
The financial success of Stellar Blade on the PlayStation 5 has set high expectations for its upcoming PC version. Shift Up confidently predicts that the PC release will surpass the sales of the original console version, particularly in the Asian gaming market. This optimism is fueled by the game's positive reception and its ability to quickly sell a million copies upon release.
In addition to the continued success of Stellar Blade, Shift Up is gearing up to unveil its next project, Project Witches, in the first half of 2025. Although fans have been vocal about their desire for a Stellar Blade sequel, Project Witches was announced shortly after the PS5 release of Stellar Blade and is not a direct follow-up. However, Shift Up has expressed interest in potentially developing another game within the Stellar Blade franchise.
Stellar Blade immerses players in the role of Eve, who fights against mysterious invaders to reclaim Earth through fast-paced action role-playing game combat. Despite receiving a 7/10 rating from IGN, the game has been praised for its engaging action mechanics. IGN's review noted, "Stellar Blade is great in all of the most important ways for an action game, but dull characters, a lackluster story, and several frustrating elements of its RPG mechanics prevent it from soaring along with the best of the genre."
