The San Francisco Nintendo Store Now Has Its Own Camper Waiting Out for the Switch 2 — and It's Not Even Open Yet

by Jack May 01,2025

The excitement for the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 is palpable, as evidenced by the dedication of fans already camping out for its release. YouTuber Super Cafe has taken this enthusiasm to the next level by setting up camp outside the new Nintendo Store in San Francisco, which is set to open on May 15. Despite the store not being open for another month, Super Cafe flew over 800 miles to be the first in line on the west coast for the anticipated console launch on June 5, 2025.

In a video released on April 8, Super Cafe shared his journey and his decision to camp out for both the store opening and the Nintendo Switch 2 release. Having just moved into his apartment two months prior, he humorously acknowledged the financial implications of his choice but remained unfazed, stating, "Terrible financial decision on my end. Whatever, who cares."

Super Cafe is not alone in his dedication. Another YouTube content creator is similarly camping out at the New York Nintendo store, aiming to be first in line for the Switch 2. While Super Cafe plans to camp solo, he has invited others interested in joining him at the San Francisco store to get in touch. He also plans to address questions about his accommodations, food, showers, and other basic needs in a future Q&A.

The tradition of camping out for major Nintendo releases, particularly for consoles, has a long history. With dedicated fans at both coastal Nintendo stores, it remains to be seen if this will spark a broader trend of camping out for the Switch 2. For those not inclined to camp, our guides on Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders offer insights, though the situation is complicated by ongoing tariffs in the United States.
