On April 16, during an exciting livestream, developer Jagex announced that the game is now accessible for early access on Steam. This announcement came just a few weeks after the release of its first trailer, leaving fans in awe.
The game first appeared on the radar in 2022, but it wasn't until late 2024 that Jagex began accepting signups for alpha testing of a "new survival game set in the RuneScape universe." The official unveiling of RuneScape: Dragonwilds took place on March 31, 2025, with the game opening for wishlist on Steam on April 1 and showcasing its first gameplay teaser on April 2.

Jagex has set their sights on an early 2026 release for Dragonwilds. Early Access Roadmap Revealed
Jagex has shared an exciting early access roadmap, outlining the enhancements planned for Dragonwilds. A major highlight is the introduction of the Fellhollow region, a mystical land suspended between life and death, governed by the soul-eater dragon Imaru. This region is influenced by the wild anima of Ashenfall and the cursed energy of the Underworld, with the iconic RuneScape character Death accompanying players on this journey.
Expect new quests, lore, gear, and music, as well as advancements in magic, ranged, and farming skills. The game will also introduce Lesser Dragons, new dragon slayer gear, a hardcore mode, and a creative mode, among other features. Although specific update dates are not yet set, Jagex promises continuous improvements throughout the early access period.
