Pokémon TCG Pocket: No Competitive Plans

by Mila Mar 29,2025

The Pokémon Company has confirmed that Pokémon TCG Pocket will not be entering the competitive circuit anytime soon. In a recent interview with VGC on February 25, 2025, Chris Brown, the Director of eSports at The Pokémon Company, shared that while they continuously evaluate different titles for inclusion in the competitive scene, Pokémon TCG Pocket is not currently on the agenda. Brown lightheartedly mentioned other titles like "Pokemon Sleep," referencing a playful April Fool's parody trailer, but emphasized, "But at this time there are no plans for Pokemon Pocket to join, but we’re always looking at things."

No Plans For Competitive Pocket

Pokémon TCG Pocket Has No Plans To Go Competitive

The decision to keep Pokémon TCG Pocket out of the competitive scene may be influenced by the game's current stage of development. Launched in October 2024, the game has only been available for four months and has released just two sets. While the game includes competitive features, the community has pointed out ongoing balancing issues. Pokémon TCG Pocket is designed as a more simplified and beginner-friendly version of the original Pokémon card game, suggesting that a competitive focus may not align with its core design philosophy.

Too Early And Unbalanced

Despite the absence of Pokémon TCG Pocket in competitive play, The Pokémon Competitive Circuit remains vibrant with events featuring Pokémon TCG, Pokémon GO, Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, and Pokémon Unite. These games will be showcased at the upcoming Pokémon World Championships in August 2025 in Anaheim, California. For the latest updates on Pokémon TCG Pocket, be sure to visit our dedicated page.
