Path of Exile 2 Expeditions: A Comprehensive Guide
Path of Exile 2 introduces Expeditions, a revamped endgame event lifted from the original game's Expedition League. This guide covers Expedition mechanics, rewards, and the passive skill tree. Four main endgame events—Delirium, Breaches, Rituals, and Expeditions—await you on the Atlas map.
Locating and Initiating Expeditions
Expedition map nodes on the Atlas are marked with a distinctive light blue, spiral-shaped icon. You can guarantee an Expedition encounter by placing an Expedition Precursor Tablet in a completed Lost Tower slot.
Once inside an Expedition map, locate the marked area with a tent and four NPCs. While they offer basic instructions, mastering Expedition mechanics requires further exploration.
The core of the Expedition involves strategically placing Explosives near Markers to spawn Runic Monsters, Unearthed Remnants, and Excavated Chests.
- Runic Monsters: Detonating Explosives near Red Markers spawns these monsters. Larger markers yield larger monster packs, enhanced by Unearthed Remnants.
- Unearthed Remnants: These relics offer beneficial or detrimental modifiers. For example, increased monster elemental damage might be offset by higher item rarity in Excavated Chests.
- Excavated Chests: Found near Black Markers with the spiral symbol, these chests contain Artifacts, Logbooks, currency, Waystones, and high-end gear.
Use the Explosives UI to plan placement, ensuring the green AoE circles don't overlap for optimal reward yield. After placing all Explosives, activate them via the Detonator. If overwhelmed, you can retreat and return later; the event doesn't end upon leaving the area.
The Expedition Pinnacle Map and Olroth
Runic Monsters and Excavated Chests have a chance to drop Expedition Logbooks. Take these to Dannig in your Hideout to access the Expedition Pinnacle Map. Slot the Logbook and click "Open Portals."
This unlocks a massive Expedition with significantly more Explosives. The Pinnacle Map features Olroth, a challenging boss (indicated by a skull on the minimap). Defeating Olroth is crucial for obtaining Expedition Passive Skill Tree points (double points per victory).
Expedition Passive Skill Tree
Located within the Atlas Passive Skill Tree, the Expedition Passive Skill Tree enhances the event. Points are allocated to increase rewards, boost monster spawns, and amplify Remnant effects.
The skill tree features eight Notable nodes and eight difficulty-increasing nodes for Logbooks and Olroth. Remember, defeating Olroth is necessary to unlock new Notable nodes.
Notable Expedition Passives:
Notable Passive | Effect | Requirements |
---|---|---|
Extreme Archaeology | Reduces Explosives to 1, but boosts radius (150%), placement range (100%), and reduces enemy Life (20%) | N/A |
Disturbed Rest | 50% more Runic Monster Flags | N/A |
Detailed Records | 50% more Logbooks, Logbooks always spawn with 3x Modifiers | Disturbed Rest |
Timed Detonations | 50% more Artifacts, 50% faster Detonation chains | N/A |
Legendary Battles | 50% more Rare monsters, 50% more Exotic Coinage | Timed Detonations |
Frail Treasures | 3x more Excavated Chest Markers, but they disappear after 5 seconds | N/A |
Weight of History | 35% boost to Remnant effects | N/A |
Unearthed Anomalies | Remnants gain an additional Suffix and Prefix modifier | Weight of History |
Prioritize "Disturbed Rest," "Detailed Records," and "Timed Detonations" for significant reward increases. Then consider "Weight of History," "Unearthed Anomalies," and "Legendary Battles" for further, albeit harder, gains. Avoid "Extreme Archaeology" due to the drastic reduction in Explosives.
Expedition Rewards
The main rewards are Artifacts, used to trade with specific vendors for gear.
Artifact | Vendor | Gear Type |
---|---|---|
Broken Circle Artifact | Gwennen | Weapons |
Black Scythe Artifact | Tujen | Belts & Jewelry |
Order Artifact | Rog | Armor |
Sun Artifact | Dannig | Various |
Exotic Coinage | All Vendors | Inventory Refresh |
Expedition Logbooks, obtained from Runic Monsters and Excavated Chests, unlock Pinnacle Maps and the chance to fight Olroth, yielding unique rewards and additional passive skill tree points. The higher the Logbook level, the greater the chance of Olroth appearing and dropping superior loot.
