Capcom has recently unveiled new gameplay footage for their highly anticipated 2026 action game, Onimusha: Way of the Sword. The excitement doesn't stop there; we now know that the legendary Japanese swordsman, Miyamoto Musashi, will be leading the charge in this latest installment of the Onimusha series.
During the PlayStation State of Play event, Capcom showcased a trailer that provided a fresh look at the gameplay of Onimusha: Way of the Sword. Despite the game's release being slated for 2026, the sword-based action and the confrontation with large enemies already look promising.
*Onimusha: Way of the Sword* will feature Miyamoto Musashi as its protagonist. Renowned for his historical prowess with the sword, Musashi's skills are depicted as unmatched in the game. Beyond his combat abilities, the trailer also highlighted his rogueish and comedic personality, adding depth to his character.According to a press release from Capcom, Onimusha: Way of the Sword is described as a dark fantasy action game that brings one of Japan's most celebrated historical figures to life. Interestingly, Musashi's appearance in the game is modeled after the iconic Japanese actor Toshiro Mifune, who famously portrayed Musashi in samurai films.
The game's setting is in Kyoto, which has been overrun by an evil entity known as Malic. This force is summoning Hell and its denizens into Japan, creating a gripping narrative backdrop. Onimusha: Way of the Sword marks the first new entry in the Onimusha series in two decades. To build anticipation, Capcom has also announced the release of a remastered version of Onimusha 2: Samurai's Destiny, set to launch on May 23, 2025.
