Nintendo Responds to Switch 2 Leaks from CES 2025
Following a series of Nintendo Switch 2 leaks originating from CES 2025, Nintendo issued an uncommon statement. The company confirmed that the circulating images are not official, citing its absence from this year's CES. This brief comment, while seemingly obvious, is noteworthy given Nintendo's typically reserved approach to addressing leaks.
The Switch 2 has been the subject of numerous leaks since late 2024, coinciding with reports of its entry into mass production. A recent example involved accessory manufacturer Genki, which displayed a purported Switch 2 replica at CES. Images of this replica quickly spread across social media.
In response to an inquiry from the Sankei Shimbun, Nintendo officially labeled the Genki replica images as "not official." The company emphasized its non-participation in CES 2025, thereby invalidating the images as official promotional materials.
Genki's Replica: Accurate or Not?
While Nintendo refrained from commenting on the replica's accuracy, its design aligns with previous leaks and rumors. The most significant difference from the original Switch is the inclusion of an additional button, labeled "C," situated below the right Joy-Con's home button. Its function remains a mystery, even to Genki CEO Eddie Tsai.
Tsai did, however, offer additional purported details, including the claim that the Switch 2's Joy-Cons will utilize magnetic attachment instead of sliding rails, and that they will function as a mouse—a possibility previously suggested by other sources.
Nintendo's previous statements indicated a Switch 2 reveal within fiscal year 2024 (ending March 31, 2025). With approximately 80 days remaining, the company still has time to fulfill this promise. A retail release is not anticipated before the second quarter of 2025, with a rumored price point around $399.
