Switch 2 N64 Games Boosted by CRT Filter, Rewind

Nintendo has officially confirmed that three new features are coming to Nintendo 64 games available through the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack subscription. However, two of these enhancements will be exclusive to the upcoming Switch 2.

The trio of new additions includes customizable controls, a rewind function, and a CRT screen filter designed to mimic the look of classic cathode-ray tube televisions.

Of these, only the option to view and change control settings will be accessible on the current Nintendo Switch. The full suite of features will be available on the Switch 2 starting from its launch on June 5th.

This decision has already drawn criticism from some Switch owners, who are disappointed that the CRT filter and rewind capabilities are locked to the new console. Comments on Nintendo's feature reveal video reflect this sentiment, with one user sarcastically noting, "The power of Switch 2: being able to apply a CRT filter. Truly, this is the power of next-gen hardware." Another questioned, "Why is a simple filter restricted to the Switch 2?"

Nintendo demonstrated the new features using classic titles. The rewind function was shown in *Super Mario 64* and *Mario Golf*, allowing players to roll back gameplay and retry moments. *Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards* was used to showcase the nostalgic CRT filter effect. Finally, *Star Fox 64* highlighted the new view and change controls menu.

The Nintendo Switch 2 launches on June 5th. In preparation, Nintendo recently updated the Nintendo Switch Online app on the current Switch to align with the version that will ship on the new console.
