Monster Hunter Wilds has shattered records by selling over eight million units in just three days, making it the fastest-selling game in Capcom's history. This impressive launch significantly outpaces the five million copies shipped by Monster Hunter World in 2018 and the four million by Monster Hunter Rise in 2021.
These stellar sales figures are not surprising, given that Monster Hunter Wilds achieved over one million concurrent players on Steam during its opening weekend, surpassing Cyberpunk 2077 and becoming the 7th most-played game ever on the platform. Additionally, the game's popularity helped Steam reach a new milestone of 40 million concurrent players for the first time.
In our review of Monster Hunter Wilds, we noted that the game "continues to smooth off the rougher corners of the series in smart ways, making for some extremely fun fights but also lacking any real challenge."
Capcom also shared that the Monster Hunter franchise, which started in 2004 on the PlayStation 2, has now surpassed 108 million units sold worldwide as of December 31, 2024.
