Monster Hunter Wilds Nears 1 Million Peak Concurrent Players on Steam — and It’s Only Going to Get Bigger From Here

by Zachary Apr 03,2025

Monster Hunter Wilds has stormed onto the scene with a colossal launch, boasting nearly 1 million concurrent players on Steam alone. Capcom's latest action-adventure title, available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X and S, has swiftly climbed to become the eighth most-played game on Steam of all time, with an impressive peak of 987,482 concurrent users.

To put this achievement into perspective, Monster Hunter Wilds has surpassed the all-time peak concurrent player counts of blockbuster titles like Elden Ring, Hogwarts Legacy, and Baldur’s Gate 3. It has also eclipsed the peak of its predecessor, Monster Hunter World, which reached 334,684 concurrent players on Steam back in 2018. It's important to note that the actual peak concurrent figure for Monster Hunter Wilds is likely to be even higher, as neither Sony nor Microsoft disclose player numbers for their platforms.

As Monster Hunter Wilds enters its first weekend on sale, the question on everyone's mind is how much further the Steam concurrent player count can climb. There's a strong possibility that it will surpass the 1 million mark today, potentially overtaking Cyberpunk 2077. Could it even reach 2 million concurrent players? Only time will tell.

While Capcom has yet to release official sales figures for Monster Hunter Wilds, all indicators suggest a tremendously successful launch. For context, Monster Hunter World achieved over 25 million sales in six years, securing its place as Capcom's best-selling game ever. However, it's worth mentioning that Monster Hunter Wilds currently holds a 'mixed' user review rating on Steam, with some players citing performance issues.

IGN's review of Monster Hunter Wilds awarded it an 8/10, stating, "Monster Hunter Wilds continues to smooth off the rougher corners of the series in smart ways, making for some extremely fun fights but also lacking any real challenge."
