Monster Hunter Wilds Bugs and MTX Can't Stop Massive Launch

Monster Hunter Wilds has captivated over 1 million concurrent players on Steam, despite receiving mixed reviews. Dive into the details about the game's performance on PC and the challenges it currently faces.

Monster Hunter Wilds Received Mixed Reviews on Steam

Despite the mixed reviews on Steam, Monster Hunter (MH) Wilds has achieved an astounding 1 million concurrent players. According to SteamDB, MH Wilds reached an all-time peak of 1,384,608 players, shattering the records set by its predecessors. Monster Hunter World peaked at 334,684 players, while Monster Hunter Rise reached 231,360. However, MH Wilds currently holds a "Mixed" rating on Steam, with only 57% of the 54,669 reviews being positive. Many of the negative reviews highlight issues with PC optimization and performance.

Capcom Responds To PC Performance Issues

In response to the negative feedback regarding MH Wilds' PC performance, Capcom has taken steps to address these concerns. On February 28, 2025, the official Monster Hunter Status account on Twitter (X) posted updates and solutions to the game's issues.

Capcom directed players to the MH Wilds support website, which offers various troubleshooting tips. These include updating video/graphics drivers, ensuring the latest Windows updates are installed, and performing a clean installation of video drivers. If issues persist, Capcom recommends following the detailed steps on the Official Monster Hunter Wilds Troubleshooting & Issue Reporting Thread on the Steam community page.

Game-breaking Bug Blocking Story Progress

A significant game-breaking bug is currently preventing players from progressing in the story. A crucial NPC is missing from its designated location, blocking players at Main Mission: Chapter 5-2 A World Turned Upside Down. Monster Hunter Status acknowledged this issue on Twitter (X) on March 2, 2025, and confirmed that the team is actively working on a fix.

Additionally, players have encountered issues with the "Grill a Meal" and "Ingredient Center" features not unlocking despite meeting the required criteria, as well as problems accessing the Smithy. The development team has released hotfixes and updates across various platforms to address these concerns.

Character Editing Locked Behind Microtransactions

In Monster Hunter Wilds, players must purchase microtransactions to modify their character's appearance and that of their Palicos. The game offers the Monster Hunter Wilds - Character Edit Voucher Three-Voucher Pack, allowing three character edits for $6.00 across all digital storefronts. While basic changes like hair, eyebrow color, facial color, makeup, and clothing can be made freely, more extensive alterations require this voucher. Similarly, editing a Palico's appearance requires a separate voucher pack. An alternative $10 voucher allows for three edits for both the character and Palico.

However, Capcom is providing a single free voucher for character edits. These microtransactions were not part of the game during its testing phase, but their inclusion was announced by Capcom beforehand.
