The announcement was made via Metro’s official Twitter (X) account on April 14, showcasing the developers' desire to share the origin of the franchise with a wider audience. Additionally, last month, 4A Games released a blog post on March 16 detailing their plans for the anniversary celebrations.
The post promised a year filled with events, special deals, and celebratory content across Metro’s social media channels, expressing gratitude to players for their continued support.
4A Games, initially founded in Kyiv, Ukraine, and later expanding to Malta, draws its inspiration from the science fiction novels of Russian author Dmitry Glukhovsky, particularly the Metro 2033 series. Despite the challenges posed by the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, 4A Games remains committed to continuing their storytelling with themes reflecting the war's impact. In a recent statement, they said, "These circumstances are incredibly challenging, the situation remains dangerous and not within our control, but we are currently as safe as possible, and we want to manage your expectations around the reveal of the next Metro title, it will be ready when it is ready, and we can’t wait for you to see it."

The ongoing war in Ukraine has deeply influenced the development of the upcoming Metro game. 4A Games shared, "As we said in our last studio update, in 2022 a full-scale Russian invasion changed how we wanted to tell the story of the next Metro game. As art became life for many of our developers in Ukraine, we drew from that lived experience to create an even darker story, those themes already present in Metro becoming ever-more apparent and important."
