In Hyper Light Breaker, selecting the right weapons is crucial to crafting an effective build. Starting with basic loadouts, players can progress and discover equipment that aligns perfectly with their preferred playstyles. This game uniquely blends roguelike elements with extraction game mechanics, introducing a distinct approach to acquiring new weapons.
Where to Get New Weapons in Hyper Light Breaker
One primary method to acquire new gear is by exploring Overgrowths. As you navigate through the world during a run, you'll naturally encounter new items. If you're specifically hunting for weapons, keep an eye out for the sword or pistol icons on the map. These icons indicate the locations of Blades and Rails, respectively.
Blades, which are melee weapons, offer diverse movesets and special abilities, while Rails, the ranged weapons, come with unique functions that distinguish each one. Both types of weapons are available in various rarities, with gold being the rarest and most powerful. Following the tradition of loot-based games, the higher the rarity, the better the stats of the weapon.
When you find a weapon in the Overgrowth, you can choose to send it to your personal stash by selecting the Cache button rather than Equip. This allows you to equip these weapons for future runs by adjusting your loadout before embarking on your next adventure.
How to Get New Starting Weapons
In addition to finding new weapons during runs, you can acquire new starting gear by purchasing them from merchants at the Cursed Outpost. Initially, only the Blades merchant is available. To unlock the Rails merchant, you'll need to gather enough materials to repair their shop.
Keep in mind that merchants have a limited stock of items, but their inventory refreshes over time. If you don't find what you're looking for initially, be sure to check back later to see what new items they have in stock.
How to Upgrade Weapons
To enhance your gear, you can upgrade your weapons at the merchants in the Outpost. However, you must first unlock the Upgrade feature by increasing your affinity with the merchants. This is achieved by collecting Golden Rations, a scarce resource found through world exploration or by resetting cycles. Given their rarity, it's important to use Golden Rations judiciously.
Be aware that if you die, all equipped gear will lose one pip's worth of durability, indicated by the bar under their icons. Repeated deaths will eventually cause your weapons to break, so manage your gear carefully to maintain its effectiveness throughout your runs.
