Elden Ring Nightreign will not feature poisonous swamps

by Nicholas Mar 04,2025

Elden Ring Nightreign, the upcoming cooperative action title, will notably omit the signature poisonous swamps found in many FromSoftware games. This revelation comes directly from Yasuhiro Kitao, the project's product manager, during a recent press interview.

While a swamp-like area was featured in the Elden Ring Nightreign trailer, Kitao clarifies it's a distinct location. He attributes the absence of traditional poisonous swamps to the non-participation of Hidetaka Miyazaki, FromSoftware's head and a known enthusiast of swamp environments in games like Elden Ring and the Dark Souls series. Miyazaki's absence from Nightreign's development explains this omission.

Interestingly, a two-player mode remains under consideration. Currently, only solo and three-player modes are confirmed, with initial exclusion attributed to content balancing difficulties. FromSoftware is actively evaluating the feasibility of adding a two-player option, but a final decision is pending.

Elden Ring Nightreign is slated for release on May 30, 2025, for PC and current and next-generation consoles.
