Dragon Age: Veilguard Surprises Fans with Free Weapon DLC After Long Wait

by Victoria Apr 03,2025

BioWare has nearly shifted its focus away from Dragon Age: The Veilguard, yet the game's remaining team has managed to surprise fans by adding a small DLC weapons pack. The unexpected update to the RPG's Steam page revealed the Rook's Weapons Appearance Offer, a free add-on content that has sparked excitement among the Dragon Age community. Given that EA had previously indicated minimal support for the game moving forward, this new content—albeit modest—is a pleasant surprise. Following the fifth patch in January, which focused on addressing game-breaking bugs and hinted at limited future updates, this DLC feels like a small miracle.

The Rook's Weapons Appearances bundle is exclusively available to current owners of the game and those who purchase it on PC before April 8, 2025. While the specific contents of the bundle remain undisclosed, players have deduced that it includes a set of Watchful skins accessible in the Rook's in-game room. It's uncertain whether this offer will extend to the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X | S versions of the game.

Community reactions have been mixed but generally positive. A Steam review noted, "Even if these appearances aren't the most, uh, beautiful things ever, they do give spooky eldritch horror vibes!" Similarly, a Redditor commented, "It's cosmetic DLC, but it's essentially free DLC for a game that's practically no longer getting newer content. I'll live with that."

Despite launching to positive reviews in October, according to EA, Dragon Age: The Veilguard did not capture a wide enough audience. Key team members announced their departure from BioWare in late January, with many staff members either being laid off or reassigned within the company. EA informed IGN that BioWare is now fully focused on the next Mass Effect installment.

The game was recently added to the PlayStation Plus March 2025 titles, just four months after its release, but no further plans for its future have been announced.
