Devil's Purge Goes Free-to-Play, Expands Soundtrack

by Patrick May 21,2025

If you haven't yet experienced the thrill of Devil's Purge, the heavy metal AR shooter from Ontop, now is the perfect time to dive in. During my trip to Portugal last year, I had the chance to preview this electrifying game where you blast demons and the devil himself, all set to a hardcore heavy metal soundtrack.

In an exciting new update, Devil's Purge is not only expanding its already pulse-pounding soundtrack but is also going free to play! Inspired by its spiritual predecessor Doom, the game adopts a shareware approach, allowing you to try out some of the initial levels out of over 60 for free. If you're hooked, you can then choose to unlock the full game.

In Devil's Purge, you're not just standing and shooting; you must actively move to dodge enemies and reveal their weak spots. This dynamic gameplay sets it apart from other AR experiences like Pokémon Go. The latest update introduces a host of new tracks from independent metal artists such as Avesso, Visceral, Zero Massive, Tales for the Unspoken, and many others, enhancing the game's brutal soundtrack.

With over 60 levels and a new combat system that lets you customize your equipment from the start using resources from previous sessions, there's no better time to take on the forces of Hell. The shift to free-to-play begins today, and you can find Devil's Purge on the iOS App Store.

If you're looking for something entirely different, check out Catherine Dellosa's review of the cutesy, cozy culinary simulator Cat Restaurant in our regular feature, Ahead of the Game, where we cover upcoming releases you can play before their official launch.
