Engaging Lu Bu in Dynasty Warriors: Origins is a daunting endeavor, as I discovered during my own gameplay, which took over an hour to conquer him. However, there are compelling reasons to take on this challenge.

Firstly, defeating Lu Bu earns you bragging rights; it's a prestigious feat within the gaming community. Secondly, depending on your alliances with Shu or Wei, you might find yourself facing him during the Battle of Xiapi in Chapter 4, leaving you no choice but to fight. Lastly, triumphing over Lu Bu at the Battle of Hulao Gate not only grants you the 'The Strongest' trophy but also unlocks the game’s final weapon, the halberd, if you defeat him in the post-game, providing significant incentives for victory.

Lu Bu’s First Phase

Before challenging Lu Bu, ensure you're equipped with the right gear. A weapon like a sword that can deliver multiple hits and stagger him is essential. Equip Battle Arts that require minimal Bravery, activate quickly, and have a wide range. During my fight, I used Falcon Flurry, Mad Blade Rush, Absconding Slash, and Flying Dragon Slash. Accessories that boost health and defense, such as Divine Bird’s Wing and Divine Turtle’s Shell, are crucial as Lu Bu's attacks can quickly deplete your health. Additionally, choose a weapon with a skill that replenishes Bravery for each Perfect Evade, as this will be your primary method to gain Bravery during the battle.

In Dynasty Warriors: Origins, Lu Bu typically begins the fight mounted on his horse, Red Hare. This initial phase involves Lu Bu charging around the battlefield. He's swift but will pause occasionally, offering you a window to strike with your Battle Arts before retreating. His attacks have a limited area of effect, except for Red Hare's aerial jump and subsequent crash. Once Lu Bu's health drops to 80%, he dismounts, and the real challenge begins.

Lu Bu’s Second Phase

Lu Bu grabbing the Wanderer in Dynasty Warriors: OriginsLu Bu's prowess on foot is unmatched. His attacks are swift and he maneuvers quickly across the battlefield, often surrounded by a red aura, rendering him immune to staggering. When he charges, he does so in sets of three; evade these charges and be wary of his grab attempt, which can severely damage your health but is avoidable with timely evasion.

His most lethal move is signaled by an orange glow, leading to a barrage of three massive arrows launched thrice, capable of juggling and depleting your health rapidly. Here, a ranged Battle Art like Absconding Slash is vital to interrupt this attack. Close-quarters Battle Arts like Palm Strike are risky and often fatal. Keep your Musou gauge ready for emergency invincibility, which can save you from fatal errors.

Lu Bu is surprisingly vulnerable to juggling during this phase. Continuous attacks can quickly charge your Battle Arts, helping to break his Fortitude meter. Stay close to react swiftly to his moves, and remember to evade frequently.

Lu Bu’s Final Phase

As Lu Bu's health dwindles, he enters Musou Rage, marking the final phase. Now immune to staggering, he unleashes relentless attacks. Your objective is to deplete his Fortitude before he executes his Musou attack. Use all available resources—activate your Musou attacks, deploy Battle Arts, and strike with everything you have. If Lu Bu manages to perform his Musou Attack, he'll immediately reactivate it, forcing you to restart the phase. Breaking his Fortitude here is key to defeating him.

And that’s how you conquer Lu Bu in Dynasty Warriors: Origins! The game is now available for PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S.
